Commissioned by David Russell Martin
24 Aug 2016, Barachois Historic Church, Grand-Barachois, NB David Russell Martin, trombone; Pierre-André Doucet, piano.
Torsion was written for and commissioned by trombonist David Russell Martin. It was first performed by Martin and pianist Pierre-André Doucet on August 24, 2016, at Barachois Historic Church in Grand-Barachois, NB. Torsion: the action of twisting or the state of being twisted, especially of one end of an object relative to the other. High energy levels and interlocking short phrases are a hallmark of the piece – the pulsing rhythms of the trombone and piano twist and twine around one another like a furious ball of musical snakes.
