Daria Dobrochna Kwiatkowska (b. 1969, Poland) moved to Canada in June 2002, where she resided in Toronto. She currently lives in Birmingham, England with her husband, composer Scott Wilson, where she works as a freelance composer and music teacher. Her compositional interests include a range of musical possibilities from chamber to orchestral music, as well as mixed media, non-western instruments, and music for unconventional spaces.
Ms. Kwiatkowska began studying music at the age of eight, initially specializing in piano performance. During her teenage years, she became interested in composition, and in 1994 she earned a Mater of Arts degree in composition from the I.J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznan, Poland. In 1996-7, she continued her education in Holland with Louis Andriessen, as the recipient of a stipend from the Polish Ministry of Culture. In 1998 she moved to the United States to continue her studies with Steven Stucky and Roberto Sierra at Cornell University, where she earned a doctoral degree in composition in May 2002.
Ms. Kwiatkowska has participated in numerous workshops, where she had the opportunity to work with many distinguished composers, including Witold Lutoslawksi, Mark Kopytman, Bogislaw Schaeffer, and Martin Bresnick.
She has been the recipient of several important awards and fellowships, inlcuding: The award of the Minister of Culture and Art of Poland (1993-4); Third Prize in the international composition contest "Nations and Sereotypes" in Krakow (1993); an honourable mention in the competition for young composers organized by the Polish Composers' Society (1994); the John James Blackmore Prize (1999); The Barabara Troxell Award (2001); the Robbins Award of Excellence in Composition (2002), and the Toronto Emerging Composer Award (2003).
The Music of Daria Dobrochna Kwiatkowska has been performed in Poland, Germany, Holland, Italy, Japan, Canada, and the United States. Notable performances include concerts at the Ijsbreker in Amsterdam (1996 and 1997); performances by Vancouver's Ensemble Symphosium (1998 and 1999); and performances by Toronto's Continuum Contemporary Music. Festival participation includes the Poznan Spring Festival in Poland (1998 and 2002) and the Festival Chamber Orchestra in Ithaca, NY (2000 and 2002). Recent projects include the performance of the music-shadow puppet theatre project Shuttle Dreams, completed in partnership with Puppet Mongers and Scott Wilson. Upcoming projects include the 2004/2005 premiere of a flute concerto commissioned by Patrick Gallois.

Daria Dobrochna Kwiatkowska (née en 1969, en Pologne) s’installe à Toronto, au Canada en juin 2002.
