Afarin Mansouri is an award-winning composer, opera artist, singer, and musicologist whose works have been performed across the globe. She is the recipient of many awards including Canada 150 Medal for her artistic contribution, and was nominated for Louise Applebaum Composition Award for Young Audience.
In the past few years Afarin has devoted her compositional career in producing operas: In 2018, her opera “Forbidden” commissioned by Tapestry opera gained national and international attention and BBC Farsi made a documentary film based on it. Opera Canada considered her music “powerful, the most memorable highlights of the opera in her operatic composition scene “Saffronic”. Her Children’s Audio Opera “Little published by Centredisc is available online at the Canadian Music Centre. Queen’s University performed Afarin’s first digital opera AITCH ARR in March 2020. The first scene of Afarin’s first Farsi language spiritual opera Zulrykha which is a combination of Eastern mystical subjects and meanings with music with operatic style was produced by Loose Tea Music Theatre and performed at Kingston’s Watershed Festival in may 2021.
Afarin has presented various research papers, lectures, and opera workshops on national and international level, covering various topics. Her PhD research is on the topic of Children’s opera, it’s history and it’s effect of developing children’s intellectual skills.
