Dr. Laura Sgroi (Silberberg) recently completed her Doctoral degree in music composition at the University of Toronto. She has composed music in a variety of genres including orchestral, chamber, choral, electroacoustic and top 40/popular music. Her compositions and piano improvisations have been featured live on CBC Radio's Here and Now three times and twice on Metro Morning.
She is the youngest composer featured on the album "Woman Runs with Wolves" (Centrediscs, 2013) by percussionist Beverley Johnston. She is also the youngest composer featured on the 2016 Juno Nominated Album "Spin Cycle" (Centrediscs, 2015) performed by the Afiara String Quartet and DJ Skratch Bastid.
Laura also composes music for film. She performs live improvised piano accompaniment for silent films at the TIFF Bell Lightbox Theatre and has performed at the Toronto International Film Festival as well as the Toronto Silent Film Festival.
Laura was included in the list of 50 up and coming young Canadians under 30 by Maclean's Magazine when she was only sixteen. She is a five-time recipient of the Ontario Graduate Scholarship and was awarded the prestigious William and Phyllis Waters Graduating Scholarship from the University of Toronto. In 2015, Laura was included in CBC's list of the 30 hottest classical musicians under 30.
Laura is currently the composer-in-residence for the Cantabile Chamber Singers and teaches composition at the Royal Conservatory's Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists.

Laura Silberberg, alors qu’elle n’avait que 16 ans, a figuré sur la liste des 50 jeunes Canadiens prometteurs de moins de 30 ans établie par le magazine Maclean's. Elle a obtenu à cinq reprises la bourse d’études supérieures de l’Ontario et s’est vu également attribuer la prestigieuse bourse d’études supérieures William et Phyllis Waters de l’Université de Toronto.
La musicienne compose aussi de la musique de film. Elle a interprété en direct des accompagnements improvisés au piano pour des films muets projetés au TIFF Bell Lightbox Theatre et s’est produite au Festival international du film de Toronto et au Festival du film muet qui s’est également tenu à Toronto.
