Kristi A. Allik was born in Toronto. She has received degrees from the University of Southern California, Princeton University and the University of Toronto. Her teachers include John Weinzweig, James Hopkins, Frederick Leseman, Lothar Klein, Oskar Morawetz and Milton Babbit. She has received numerous commissions and awards including Canada Council grants, Ontario Arts Council grants, a SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship, a Chalmers Foundation Award, the Federation of University Women Award and the Irving G. Mills Award. She has had performances of her works in Europe, USA and Canada.
As a composer, Allik has always been fascinated with unusual sounds. She became interested in electronic music approximately six years ago and, since that time, much of her work has dealt with electroacoustic sound and its various timbral possibilities. Allik is also interested in combining music with other artistic media. She has written an opera, been involved with theatrical productions, and has written a number of integrated media works. Above all, she is interested in increasing general awareness with her art.
Currently, Allik is on Faculty at Queen's University School of Music where she teaches composition, computer music and music theory.

Elle a reçu de nombreux honneurs et commandes: subventions du Conseil des Arts du Canada et du Conseil des Arts de l'Ontario, bourse de doctorat du Conseil de recherches en Sciences humaines du Canada, prix de la Fondation Chalmers, prix de la Fédération canadienne des femmes diplômées des universités, prix Irving G. Mills etc. Ses œuvres ont été jouées en Europe, aux États-Unis et au Canada.
Les sons inhabituels exercent depuis toujours un attrait particulier sur Allik-la-compositeure. Elle a commencé à s'intéresser à la musique électroacoustique il y a environ six ans; depuis, une grande partie de son œuvre explore les sons électroacoustiques et leurs diverses possibilités en matière de timbre. Allik s'intéresse aussi à l'intégration de la musique à d'autres médias artistiques. Elle a composé un opéra, travaillé à plusieurs présentations dramatiques, et écrit un nombre d'œuvres multi-média. Elle est tout particulièrement intéressée à sensibiliser davantage le public à son art.
Allik est présentement membre de la faculté de la School of Music de l'Université Queen's, où elle enseigne la composition, la musique à l'ordinateur et la théorie musicale.
