Victoria Maidanik (b. 1969) has graduated from the Odessa Special Musical School of Professor Stolyarsky (Ukraine) in 1987 where she studied theory, piano, and composition with Jan Freidlin. In 1987 she was accepted into the Moscow Gnessin¹s Music Academy where she studied composition in the class of Kirill Volkov, while taking private consultations with Sofia Gubaidulina. Since 1990 Miss Maidanik has been living in Toronto. In 1994 Victoria Maidanik had graduated from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music, where she studied composition in the class of professors Lothar Klein and Walter Buczynski. In 1992, while studying at the University of Toronto, Miss Maidanik was granted The Glenn Gould Composition Award. In 1995 Victoria Maidanik had received the first prize in the SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) Young Composers Competition in the chamber music category for the piece Ludus in G. In 1996 her piece Trajectoires for chamber orchestra was chosen for performance at the Internationale Darmstadter Ferienkurse fur Neue Musik. In 1997 she has completed her Master Degree in the composition class of Professor Brian Cherney at the McGill University (Montreal, Canada). In September 1997 she has won a second prize in the Gino Contilli International Competition for Composition Messina 97 for her orchestral piece VcsCtudes. In March 1999 she became a recipient of the Toronto Emerging Composer Award. In October 2000 Victoria Maidanik has graduated from the University of Toronto with the Doctor of Music degree.
