The phrase “the glass is already broken” refers to a mindfulness lecture by psychotherapist Dr. Mark Epstein in which he reflected on this quote by meditation master Ajahn Chah in response to a question about what suffering teaches. The response was that we must always enjoy the glass knowing that at some point it will break. In my own words and in the a2empt to portray this image and feeling in this composition, the knowledge that the glass is already broken gives us a heightened awareness that we must live in the now, mindfully, always appreciating the present moment in which we live. Ironically, after I finished writing the first miniature, by accident I dropped my favourite mug and the handle smashed.
