Donald Alexander Cochrane, Canadian composer and pianist was born in Cornwall, Ontario. After high-school graduation he moved to New York City to study piano under Dr. Alexander Klahr, a former associate of the University of Vienna, Austria. He earned his BSc. degree from Columbia University, NYC. Cochrane moved to Munich, Germany for a few years to continue his efforts in composition and worked with Dr. Hans Sachsse at the Munich High School of Music. Cochrane later moved to Toronto and began working as a music teacher and was Head of the Music Department in Etobicoke, Ontario for twenty-five years. Since retirement, Cochrane continues his work with computer music software using finale and the Garritan Personal Orchestra to record and print.

En parallèle, il a décroché un baccalauréat en sciences de l’Université Columbia, à New York. Par la suite, Donald Alexander Cochrane a vécu à Munich, en Allemagne, où il a poursuivi des études en composition auprès d’Hans Sachsse à l’École de musique de Munich. Quelques années plus tard, il a déménagé à Toronto pour y commencer une carrière de professeur de musique. Il a dirigé le département de musique d’Etobicoke, en Ontario, pendant 25 ans. Depuis sa retraite, il poursuit son travail de composition au moyen des logiciels Finale et Garritan Personal Orchestra, enregistrant et imprimant ses propres partitions.
