This landmark recording presents the first five string quartets of the internationally-renowned Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer, and also celebrates the 25th anniversary of one of Canada’s foremost past performing ensembles, the Orford String Quartet. This double CD set won two 1991 JUNO Awards, one for Best Classical Album in the category of Solo or Chamber Ensemble, and one for Best Classical Composition – Schafer’s “String Quartet No.5 (Rosalind)”.
